Today we are going to learn how to connect an Excel Database to P-Touch Editor. This video will cover multiple models. Even though your machine may not match the model referred to on the screen the overall process will still be the same. Before beginning, you will need to have the Brother P-Touch Editor software installed on your computer. You will also need an Excel Database created and ready to connect. To begin click File, then click Database…Now click on Connect. Click the Browse Button to search your computer for the correct database. (You can also connect to excel spreadsheet.) If your database contains a Header row, select the Header Row Contains Field Names option. Then click Next. The database will now show in the lower window. Click on the database to select it. From the menu bar click Database, and then click Merge Into Layout. Select the fields you would like to merge. For this example, we will merge the Part and Part number fields as Text and the UPC field as a Barcode. From the Merge Type dropdown select Text. Then highlight Part and Part Number…and click OK. To merge the UPC Field, again click Database…and Merge Into Layout. Select Bar Code from the dropdown and select UPC. The layout of your label will be aligned to the default settings of the Brother P-Touch Editor. To adjust the layout, click View, and then Property Palette. Now verify that the Layout option is selected. Using the arrow Icon, select one of the fields within the label. For this example, we will center all fields on the label. Please note that if any of the text appears outside the dotted margin lines, you will need to manually adjust the fields. All the records in the database are now aligned to the same format. You can also merge a database to an already existing label. For this example, we have a label created with three different fields. Click File, then click Database and select the database from the list. (You can also connect to excel spreadsheet.) Click Next. You will now be prompted to Map your Merged Fields. Click on each Database Field on the right of the widow and use the dropdowns to select the appropriate column from the database for each entry. As each column is selected, the Preview window will update, displaying an example of your label. Once all fields are set, Click OK. As before, all labels are formatted the same way.
