That was the suggestion today put forward by Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the Labour Party in the UK, who proposed the creation of a “British Digital Corporation” (BDC) that would be […] https://ift.tt/2w8L09V support@endlesssupplies.ca (Endless Supplies .Ca) August 23, 2018 at 07:30AM

China to crack down on 124 offshore cryptocurrency exchanges

It appears that cryptocurrency businesses are on the Chinese authorities’ radar again. China is blocking access to the websites of 124 offshore cryptocurrency exchange desks in the country, South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported today. The ban will effectively stop the operations of these exchanges in China. According to state-run Shanghai Securities News, the authorities are also continuing to monitor and close down websites of domestic cryptocurrency exchanges and initial coin offerings (ICOs). Businesses accepting cryptocurrencies as a means of payment are on the list as well. The news comes only a day after China’s leading social media platform WeChat banned…

Australians are drinking recycled sewage water and you should too

The world watched as Cape Town’s water crisis approached “Day Zero”. Questions are being asked about which other cities could be at risk and what can they do to avoid running dry. In Perth, Australia’s most water-stressed capital, it has been announced that the city is considering reusing all of its sewage as part of its future water supply. Drinking recycled sewage is a very confronting topic. But what many people don’t realize is that we already rely on recycled sewage in many Australian water supplies. Even in Australia’s biggest city, Sydney, it is an important part of the water…

I got an hour long Cyberpunk 2077 demo and I have some thoughts

It’s safe to say that CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 is the most highly anticipated game in development right now. The upcoming title from the team behind The Witcher 3 has game aficionados around the globe in its grip, despite not showing even a second of gameplay footage. It’s been kept tightly under wraps after the backlash from The Witcher 3’s overtly ambitious early showings. CD Projekt Red is showing a lengthy gameplay demo to the press though. Earlier this summer, journalists at E3 got to see the hour long demonstration, which was available to selected visitors of Gamescom this…

Chipotle is opening a startup accelerator, and I volunteer myself

Chipotle is good at two things: 1.) making tasty burritos, and 2.) poisoning the people who eat its burritos with norovirus. But now it’s branching into new territory. Buzzfeed News reports the casual Mexican chain is launching a new startup accelerator. According to Buzzfeed News’ Vanessa Wong, Chipotle, which is valued at roughly $14.2 billion, wants to invest in startups working a variety of sectors that intersect with its key interests. These include alternative farming, agritech, food waste management, and plant and alternative products. The chain is working with Uncharted — a Denver-based social benefit accelerator — in order to…

Nintendo wants you to play with your friends

Some of my most cherished memories involve crowding round a TV with friends and playing multiplayer games until the early hours of the morning. While this used to be the only way a group could play on a console, the success of online gaming has relegated a lot of local-multiplayer experiences. Yes, they still exist, but aren’t a major focus for most developers. Unless you’re Nintendo. At Gamescom, I got the chance to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Mario Party and Diablo III on the Nintendo Switch ahead of their launch. And, well, I had a hell of a time. Uhhh, why? Because I like…

Period emoji could smash the stigma surrounding menstruation

Astonishingly, we’re still living in a world where most women feel uncomfortable talking about their periods and some don’t even have access to sanitary products. This is why girls-focused development charity Plan International UK and Plan Australia launched a campaign to create a period emoji, in an attempt to reduce the taboo surrounding period and menstrual health. It is well-engrained into society that girls are severely marginalized compared to boys. The moment a girl starts her first period, the gender gap between sexes becomes even more pronounced. An emoji may seem like a small change that could go unnoticed, but representation…
