Xiaomi opts for sliding camera and no notch for new bezel-less Mi Mix phone

Xiaomi has announced the newest version of its bezel-less Mi Mix family, and it doesn’t sport a notch like its Mi 8 flagship. Indeed, unlike the Mi 8 — which I called one of Xiaomi’s most brazen Apple clones — there’s a lot more to get excited about. Twitter’s bot purge led to a 9M drop in users last quarter

Twitter’s just announced its quarterly earnings, in which it revealed its user base has shrunk by nine million monthly users over the last quarter. This is a good thing. That’s because the company’s been purging bots from its platform, a mission it’s been on  since July. The initial exercise saw Twitter boot tens of millions out, and it appears that the ongoing effort has had an effect on its monthly average user count this quarter too. We can’t confirm if all nine million accounts dropped were bots, but it’s almost certain that the vast majority of them were. Ultimately, that’s good for…

Red Dead Redemption 2, or as I like to call it: Game of the Year

In my 10+ years of covering video games, I’ve never seen a game as highly anticipated as Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2. The hype has led to an unusally dry video game fall, as most competitors have stayed away from releasing big titles alongside Rockstar’s first game since Grand Theft Auto V (2013). Luckily, Red Dead Redemption 2 totally lives up to the hype. The Red Dead series’ history is a weird one, but all you need to know is that Red Dead Redemption 2 is a direct prequel to Red Dead Redemption (2011) (RDR1), Rockstar’s first big non-GTA…

Why ‘Unfriended’ is the best tech-themed horror movie ever

Most horror movies (particularly those released around Halloween) are forgettable and schlocky low-budget affairs, produced only to make a quick buck. Unfriended is an exception. Released in 2014, the plot (spoiler alert) centers around the vengeful spirit of a deceased high-schooler who hijacks the digital lives of her tormentors, before swiftly and cruelly dispatching from this mortal coil. Make no mistake, Unfriended checks every box when it comes to horror must-haves. At its heart, it’s a genuinely suspenseful and terrifying movie, with plenty of gore to boot. One notorious scene shows a character being Nutrabullet-ed to death. Another grizzly scene…
