Feds shut down ill-advised driverless school bus tests in Florida
![](https://cdn0.tnwcdn.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/2018/09/school-796x448.jpg)
A technology company operating in Babcock Ranch, Florida was ordered by the US Department of Transportation on Friday to cease activity on a pilot-program using autonomous vehicles to transport school children. TNW reported last month that tech startup Transdev had entered an agreement with the progressive city of Babcock Ranch to demonstrate its autonomous shuttles. At the time we called the initiative, which saw young children riding the bus on public roadways, reckless. It looks like we weren’t the only ones who thought as much. The NHTSA release a statement ordering the company to stop: The U.S. Department of Transportation’s…

The $8k Devil May Cry V bundle is awesome and I want it
![](https://cdn0.tnwcdn.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/2018/10/DMC-V-bundle-796x417.jpg)
Capcom recently revealed three new bundles for its upcoming game Devil May Cry V, all with four-figure prices. While this is a little much even for an industry that loves expensive limited editions, I can’t help but be seriously tempted thanks to one of the perks — a snazzy coat. Available exclusively through Capcom Japan, the bundles include the game, natch, some box art, and a replica of the jacket of one of the three main characters: V’s sleeveless trench ($5,741), Nero’s hoodie ($7,176), and Dante’s red leather coat ($8,600). Given the exorbitant prices, the promise of an item for amateur…

This AI can search for people by height, gender, and clothing in surveillance videos
![](https://cdn0.tnwcdn.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/2013/11/surveillance-730x353.jpg)
A team of AI researchers from India developed a tool to search for people in surveillance footage by height, clothing color, and gender. It’s like a search engine that can find people in a video. The scientists used deep learning (and Microsoft’s COCO dataset) to train a convolutional neural network (CNN) how to recognize certain human features, called soft biometrics, using computer vision. Basically, you can tell this AI some details about the person you’re looking for and it’ll scour whatever video you give it. For example, a request for “females wearing red shirts who are 153 cm tall†would,…
